What is psychotherapy?

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, more than a quarter of adults experience depression, anxiety, or another mental disorder in any given year. Others struggle to cope with relationship challenges, the death of a loved one, job loss, stress, substance abuse, or other difficulties. These problems can often become debilitating, especially when numerous challenges begin to overlap and interfere with a person's natural ways of coping. You are not alone in seeking out information about mental health. Mental health has become part of a larger community dialogue. Especially after 2020, I have noticed that some of the stigma around mental health has been decreasing as many have been collectively challenged in unexpected ways during the pandemic. For some, it is new ways of working or parenting that has impacted their wellbeing. Others have experienced their sense of safety in the world change.

At Change Matters, I can help you work through such challenges. Through psychotherapy, psychologists help adults and adolescents cope and live healthier and more productive lives.

Through psychotherapy, psychologists apply evidence based practices to help people overcome maladaptive habits and ways of seeing themselves and the world. There are several approaches to psychotherapy including cognitive behavioural, interpersonal, Jungian, EMDR, expressive therapies, and many more that help individuals work through the challenges of life.

Psychotherapy is a collaborative treatment based on the relationship between an individual and a psychologist. Grounded in dialogue, it provides a supportive environment that allows you to talk openly with someone who's objective, neutral, and nonjudgmental. You and your psychologist will work together to identify and change the thought and behaviour patterns that are impacting your wellbeing. Book an appointment today!
